THE ROCKY RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN BABE CHANNELS AND OFCOM THROUGH THE YEARS
Ofcom has warned viewers that all XXX adult and babe channels could soon face encryption after they received a tonne of complaints over explicit content shown just after the 9pm watershed. Allegations include on-air masturbation the promotion of premium-rate services.
Just like the relationship between Batman and the Joker, the relationship between the babe channel babes and media regulator Ofcom, has been going on for as long as the babeshows have been on the air. After a lot of wrist slapping throughout the years, Ofcom has just announced that they intend to crack down on the amount of “sustained sex scenes and sexual language” shown on TV immediately after the 9pm watershed, in a bid to protect younger viewers from explicit free-to-air content AKA the babe channels, whether that’s Playboy TV, Babeworld TV or Babestation.
The proposed tightening of guidelines seems to have something to do with the sheer amount of babe channels that have popped up on Freeview over the years, in which women in lingerie invite viewers to call in and have a naughty chat with the babe onscreen AKA phonesex. Ofcom is concerned that these kind of services are broadcasting overtly sexually explicit content, that is usually only meant to appear on encrypted, subscription-only adult channels.
This comes after Ofcom fined several babe channels a while back for breaches of the broadcast code including a whopping £22,500 fine against Playboy TV for numerous breaches of the broadcasting code. Playboy TV were fined the large sum for the unencrypted airing of explicit scenes in 2007 and 2008 which included scenes depicting masturbation, oral sex between women and men and women, full nudity and “clear labial detail”. Let’s just call a spade a spade here fellas – you could see her fanny!
Following Playboy’s monster fine, Babeworld TV found themselves in the line of fire and were fined £25,000 for showing sexually explicit material 15 minutes after the 9pm watershed. Ofcom received the complaint from a mum who caught her teen son and his mates watching the nude ladies. Yikes.
