1935 Physicist Erwin Schrodinger publishes his famous thought experiment involving a box, a cat, and a radioactive atom; illustrating a paradox of the simultaneous states of a potential “both dead and alive” cat, whose actual state cannot be confirmed by an external observer until the box is opened.  Originally intended by its author as a critique showing the absurdity of the Copenhagen interpretation of quantum mechanics, it is still widely used in modern interpretations of quantum mechanics.
