When people talk about the early days of UK babeshows, Babestation is usually the name that comes up first. It was one of the pioneers of late-night interactive television in the early 2000s and quickly became a familiar part of satellite TV. But if you were channel hopping after midnight back then, you’ll probably remember another show that appeared not long afterwards – Babecast.

Babecast launched in 2003, right in the middle of what was becoming a lively new era for late-night television. Phone-in shows were booming and viewers could suddenly do something that had never really existed before – talk directly to the girls they were watching on screen. It was a strange and entertaining time to be involved in television, and here’s something most viewers never realised – For a while, Babecast and Babestation were actually filmed in the same building on Great Portland Street in London.

The Great Portland Street Secret

Babestation had its studio on the second floor, while Babecast was filmed upstairs on the top floor. Two different babe channels, two different studios, but technically under the same roof. To viewers at home they looked like completely separate productions. In reality they were almost neighbours. The two shows had different production teams and different rosters of girls, which meant each developed its own personality.

Glamour Girls vs The Girl Next Door

Babecast had a strong connection to the Daily Sport, with publisher David Sullivan involved in producing the show. That influence brought a lot of glamour modelling talent into the studio, and many of the presenters were already familiar faces from Page 3 and tabloid features.

Babestation, meanwhile, developed a slightly different style. The channel became known for presenters who felt more like the “girl next door” – chatty, playful and easy for viewers to talk to when they called in late at night. Even though the two shows were filmed only floors apart, they had very different personalities.

Inside the Early Babeshow Studios

Despite what people sometimes assume, the atmosphere inside the studios was often surprisingly relaxed, in fact, I even touched upon it in the Daily sport, where I recalled earning around £8,000 a month at just 21 years old while only working two weeks out of four.

“The girls were fun. The studio had a party atmosphere, and I didn’t experience the bitching you’d get in a normal office. People assume it’s catty, but I’ve had worse working admin jobs.”

That kind of atmosphere was typical of the early babeshow era. The industry was still finding its feet and the studios often felt more like a late-night TV experiment than a traditional workplace.

Babecast Babes

Over the years a long list of familiar names appeared on Babecast, including: Sky, Sammi Rhodes, Camilla, Kandi Kay, Dionne Mendez, Jennifer Keelings, Morgan, Denni Tayla, Donna Duke, Sahara Shakur, Jemma Jey, Talulah Thomas and Vikki Valentine.

Several of these names would later appear on Babestation, which makes sense when you remember the two productions were working in the same building.

A Unique Chapter in Babeshow History

Looking back now, it’s funny to remember that for a while two of the best-known babe channels in the UK were being produced in the same building on Great Portland Street. But behind the scenes, Babecast upstairs and Babestation downstairs were both part of the same unusual and entertaining chapter in British television history – one that helped shape the babeshow industry that followed.

While the late-night TV era may have changed, the appetite for interactive adult entertainment never disappeared – it simply evolved. Today’s fans want something more personal, more direct and far more immersive than old-school phone-ins ever offered.
