New Zealand Prime Minister advises hospital visitors against sex with patients during Covid
New Zealand’s prime minister Jacinda Ardern was hailed as one of the cool cats owing to her impeccable handling during the global pandemic, but after the question was raised about a patient and a visitor having sex at an Auckland hospital, Jacinda had some opinions on the matter. The typically chilled prime minister was speaking at the Covid-19 conference recently along with the director general of health Dr Ashley Bloomfield and the topic was brought up by a reporter about an allegation involving a patient and visitor who had supposedly had “sexual relations” at an Auckland hospital.
The reporter asked if such a thing was considered a “high-risk activity, given the current climate” and as soon as the question was asked, Ardern’s face seemed to go through a whole variety of emotions – from horrified, to exasperated, to somewhat amused. Dr Bloomfield was first to respond to the question:
“I think it is a high-risk activity, potentially, however I don’t know any of the details about that interaction.”
Ardern followed up with:
“I would say, generally, regardless of the Covid status, that kind of thing shouldn’t generally be part of visiting hours, I would have thought.”

I mean I guess that’s fair. The nurses probably have enough bodily fluids to clean up on a daily basis without adding extra sex juice to their workload. The allegation came after the Auckland health board allowed hundreds of visitors per day to see patients in hospital despite the city being in lockdown at the time. This all happened less than a month after Covid-19 minister, Chris Hipkins urged people to socially distance if they want to “spread their legs”. Erm?! Well you’ve come to the right place.
